Chopped: Kendra’s Kreations Edition – Final Recipe Reveal - Dorito Taco Salad
The results are in from Week One of Chopped: Kendra’s Kreations Edition - and the mystery basket turned into one of my favorite nostalgic recipes: Dorito Taco Salad! This dish is fun, customizable, and a total crowd-pleaser.
How to Build Your Own Dorito Taco Salad
Here’s how we like to layer it:
1. Start with Doritos, corn chips, or tortillas in the bottom of your bowl.
2. Add a fresh layer of lettuce, salad mix, or coleslaw mix.
3. Spoon on the seasoned chicken + bean mixture.
4. Add a scoop of tomato rice.
5. Top with shredded cheese, Catalina dressing, and of course - Kendra’s Kreations Home-Style Pickled Jalapeños for the perfect kick!
A Family Recipe with a Twist
This recipe actually came to me from my husband’s grandma more than 20 years ago. I had never heard of Dorito Taco Salad before, but it was a regular meal in his family. The original version is usually served as a big tossed salad with iceberg lettuce, taco meat, crushed Doritos, shredded cheddar, Catalina dressing, and sour cream.
But in our house, we love the build-your-own style. It keeps the chips from getting soggy and lets everyone customize their bowl with the toppings they love - think tomatoes, onions, sour cream, avocado, salsa, or bacon bits.
My Honest Take
Confession time: I don’t usually like Catalina (or French) dressing. But on this salad? It just works. That tangy sweetness ties everything together. Though between us… salsa might actually be even better 👀.
Try It for Yourself!
This Dorito Taco Salad is a budget-friendly, family-approved meal that’s perfect for busy weeknights. It’s also a great way to use pantry staples like beans, rice, and canned chicken - plus it gives me an excuse to add in one of my Kreations products.
